When there are multiple passengers riding in an automobile, there may be an increased risk of injuries or fatalities. For those injured or killed in a car accident, the official police report may aid in receiving compensation for their losses from an insurance company of the party who acted negligently in causing the accident.

A tragic accident occurred on a California interstate when a Ford Expedition collided head-on with a Honda Accord, killing four people, and injuring seven. The driver of the Ford, for reasons still under investigation, lost control of the vehicle and crossed the center divider, where it collided with the Honda. The collision caused both vehicles to roll over, ejecting the passengers inside. The Ford was carrying nine individuals. The driver of the Ford and two passengers died in the wreck, and the remaining six passengers were taken to area hospitals. Sadly, the driver of the Honda also perished in the crash, although the only other passenger in the Honda was taken to the hospital with injuries.

When the police investigate head-on collisions, or other car accidents where victims are injured or killed, they will usually make an official report about the accident. These reports contain the police officer’s thoughts as they survey the scene of the accident. This evidence can provide information as to whom may be liable for the accident. This can be very important when presenting a claim to an insurance company, because some insurance companies will not proceed with a claim for compensation unless they receive a copy of the official police report.

Those seeking compensation from the insurance company of the party responsible for the accident for losses suffered in a car wreck may come across difficulties in making their case. But by providing the insurance company with an official police report, the victim may have the proof necessary to aid in processing an insurance claim.
