On Wednesday, 12 people were injured in a three-vehicle accident that took place on Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles. Reports say the bus was headed east when it was hit by an SUV near Watseka Avenue.

It’s not clear from initial reports who caused the accident or how it occurred. However, one onlooker tweeted that he saw a car be involved in an initial crash and then hit the bus. Photos of the accident scene showed an SUV crashed nose-first into the side of a Metro bus.

Eleven of the 12 people injured were taken to area hospitals after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the crash scene. One of those people suffered serious injuries, though we do not know details of what those injuries are. Authorities shut down all traffic on Venice Boulevard after the crash.

While we want to trust other drivers to operate their vehicles responsibly, the many car accidents that happen in our area show that we often cannot. Unfortunately, some people continue to drive irresponsibly. Distracted driving, including talking on a cellphone, texting or drunk driving can all cause a driver to lose focus of the road in front of them. However, taking your eyes of the road for even one second can lead to disaster.

As we wait to hear more information about this bus accident, those who were injured should know their rights. If car accident injuries were caused because of another person’s negligence, victims may want to consider a personal injury lawsuit. Car accident injuries often lead to expensive medical bills, and a personal injury claim can help recover financial damages to cover these costs.
