Los Angeles highways and byways are dangerous enough without having to encounter road rage and a high-speed chase. California Highway Patrol officials said a 28-year-old woman was chasing a man on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle while driving a passenger vehicle last weekend when she collided with another vehicle before striking a different motorcyclist. A 56-year-old man on a classic 1969 Triumph Spitfire motorcycle was hit by the woman’s vehicle causing it to flip over and catch on fire.

The motorcyclist died at the scene. The woman has been charged with murder as a result of the fatalmotorcycle accident as well as reckless driving causing great bodily injury. She is being held without bail in a Northern California jail. Although the CHP responded to the accident scene it has turned the investigation over to the local County Sheriff’s office due to the possibility the accident may have been intentional and connected to an incident involving domestic violence.

A Deputy District Attorney said the murder charge reflects an implied malice aspect which is based on witness statements received thus far and evidence. The investigation is continuing and police are still interviewing witnesses, including the woman’s boyfriend who was on the Harley-Davidson. A Sheriff’s official stated the boyfriend has not been cooperative with investigators.

Apparently the couple had an argument and the man took off on his motorcycle and the woman chased after him in her car. Although the investigation is continuing, she could be held liable for her seemingly reckless actions in causing the fatal accident. Car accidents often result in personal injury claims when there are serious injuries and when it comes to motorcycle accidents fatalities are all too often a result.

Family members in such cases may be entitled to compensation for their loss. When a loved one is killed through the reckless or negligent actions of another a wrongful death suit offers recourse for the surviving family members to recover damages that result from their loss. Damages can include burial expenses, lost wages and income the deceased would have earned, as well as pain and suffering.
